Jessie Fremont Boyd collection, 1884-1885.

This collection is organized into three series. Series 1 contains letters written by Boyd to her family (mother, father and brothers) while she was a student at NEC during the years 1884-1885. They describe various aspects of her life at the Conservatory, including voice lessons, professors, social life, church services, financial issues, and dormitory life. Series 2 contains one photograph of Boyd, probably when she was a student. Series 3 contains correspondence between the Director of NEC Libraries, the donor, and an appraiser, as well as a transcription of Boyd's Sept. 14, 1884 letter and a biographical profile of Boyd written by her granddaughter, the donor, Corinne Carr Nettleton.

Jessie Fremont Boyd was born on Dec. 20, 1864 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Her parents were John and Isabella George Boyd. She was a namesake of Jessie Benton Fremont, daughter of a prominent Missouri politician and wife of John Charles Fremont who ran unsuccessfully for the US Presidency in 1856.
